Feminist Ideologies In Women's Athletic Advertising

Despite her upbringing in the United States, Gu Jianlin, a female Chinese-American athlete, made the decision to represent her mother's country, China, at the Olympic games. Her decision surprised many Americans, especially because it was a time of tension between the two countries. Many people even labeled her a traitor. She chose to represent her country's mother, which was not a popular choice. Society treated her differently than if her family had stayed in the United States.

Feminism

This study aims to explore the prevalence of feminist ideologies in women's athletic advertising. Although the sample is small, it provides some insight into the female athletes and the role of feminist marketing in athletic products. The results might also inspire more research. But, a larger sample might produce more robust results. Further research could also help to explore the relationship between feminism and athletic values.

Size

The beauty and strength of Asian female athletes is often the focus of news reports. This commentary has been a consistent feature of Asian American Olympics coverage. Despite being stereotyped, Asian-American athletes excel at many other sports.

Fragility

Asian American women have been making their way to the Olympics, and they've been scrutinized by fans and the national team. One recent example of this is Zhu Yi, who has received some mockery for falling during the team event. Zhu gave her American citizenship and competed for China. She "stole” the place from a Chinese athlete.

Color

Sports have a complicated history. Even though most Asian countries and the US have a majority of female athletes, there are some Asian-American women who have made great strides in sport. The most successful and prominent Chinese athletes are those who compete in sports that are not dominated by Asians. There are many Asian women who, despite their drive and talent, have not been fortunate.

Status

Asian female athletes are more prominent and visible, winning medals at international competitions as well as the Olympic games. They often double up as role models and diplomats, speaking out against injustice in their professional and personal lives. Vogue Singapore celebrates seven female athletes from Asia in this issue.

Race

It has been a long tradition of stereotyping race in competitive sports. Particularly, Asian athletes were portrayed as weak, fragile, and biologically inept for modern sports. Despite this, Asian female athletes are well-known and covered in news stories. Many stories focus on psychological characteristics and physical strength of the athletes.
